Promises at Showroom Helsinki Telakkaranta

Showroom Helsinki opens a new gallery space at Telakkaranta with an exhibition called Promises, showcasing Jani Leinonen and Aurora Reinhard. The exhibition will be opened by Finland’s Minister of Culture and Sport Paavo Arhinmäki on 13th of September, 2013. The exhibition is open from 14th of September until 3th of November, 2013. Celebrating Tom Exhibition

Jani Leinonen is one of the artists taking part in an exhibition called Celebrating Tom. The exhibition is part of Helsinki Design Week and shows the rarely seen works of artist Touko Laaksonen, also known as Tom of Finland. The exhibition also includes works from Leinonen, Rosa Liksom, Riiko Sakkinen, Jukka Korkeila and Eemil Karila who have been inspired by Laaksonen’s work. www.helsinkidesignweek.com

Art Basel

Jani Leinonen is presented by Galerie Gmurzynska at the world’s premier international art show for modern and contemporary works, Art Basel, on 19th – 22nd of June in Basel, Switzerland. www.artbasel.com

Assassination – Bullet Works by Jani Leinonen

Jani Leinonen’s solo exhibition Assassination takes over Showroom Helsinki’s gallery on Lönnrotinkatu. The exhibition is open from May 25 until August 10, 2013. The daily opening hours are Wednesday 4 – 7 pm and Saturday 12 – 4 pm. The opening will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Welcome! www.showroomhelsinki.com

Helmiä

Jani Leinonen’s works are included in the summer exhibition at Sara Hildén Art Museum. The exhibition is composed of works from the collection belonging to the Sara Hildén Foundation including both classic works by the masters of the early 1900’s and paintings and sculptures by contemporary Finnish and foreign artists. Well-known, modern classic works on display include pieces from Pierre Bonnard, Giorgio de Chirico, Juan Gris, Paul Klee, Fernand Léger and Pablo Picasso. Federal assembly of the Left Youth of Finland

Jani Leinonen is taking part in a panel discussion held in the Federal assembly of the Left Youth of Finland, in Hyvinkää on friday the 17th of May, 2013. The topic of the discussion is the confrontation between sports and culture in the Finnish society. The other participants are Minna Sirniö and Riku Ahola and the conversation will be lead by President of The Left Youth Li Andersson. www.vasemmistonuoret.fi    

Spark

Jani Leinonen is one of the artists taking part in the summer exhibition Spark at the Fiskars Village. Spark exhibits critical contemporary art and design and is open from 12th of May until 15th of September, 2013. The exhibition takes place in the Granary and daily opening hours are from 11 am to 6 pm. www.fiskarsvillage.fi

Happy end?

Jani Leinonen’s work will be included in an international group exhibition called “Happy end?” at the Helsinki Art Museum. The exhibition explores the future of the human mind. It will take place in Tennis Palace and around the city. Besides Leinonen the exhibition shows works from Kim Simonsson and the Russian artist group AES+F. IHME Marathon 2013

Jani Leinonen is one of the 13 artists taking part in the IHME Marathon 2013. IHME Marathon presents Finnish artists who talk about their art and their relationship toward citizen activism, the social and political nature of art. The Marathon will take place in the Great Hall of the Old Student House in Helsinki on Sunday 14th of April from 18:30 to 21:00. The other artists are Heta Kuchka, Terike Haapoja, Minna Heikinaho, Alma Heikkilä & Antti Majava, Erkki Pirtola, Minna L. Henriksson, Riikka Kuoppala, Tellervo Kalleinen & Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen and Tero Puha. The Marathon will be hosted by culture journalist Jonni Roos. …

Homelessness Fair

Jani Leinonen and Riiko Sakkinen are the curators of Homelessness Fair – Taju 2013 exhibition held in Hyvinkää this summer. Since 1998, the Hyvinkää Artists’ Society has organised a modern art event called Taju in Hyvinkää. Since 2004, the Taju events have been organised in cooperation with the Hyvinkää Art Museum. The Homelessness Fair being organised next summer is the 13th Taju event, and it introduces a whole new exhibition concept to the Finnish art scene.
